Enormous Turtle Tank - Plywood, epoxy, glass front, steel frame

heseigojira Dec 13, 2004 09:33 PM

I read the topic on a concrete tank, but concrete seems a bit too pricey for me. I read on another site that some people make their aquariums by taking plywood and coating them completely in epoxy. Well, I was curious if anyone here has tried that. What I was thinking is making a huge turtle tank to be almost like a zoo exhibit. about 6 to 8 feet in length and maybe 3-4 feet back and at least 4 feet of water. Now that's a lot of water, so I also would like to ask about large scale filters (undergravel too) that might be made/purchase. By the way, am I right in assuming that a good glass thickness might be 12mm? that's just going off another site. I would use (at least) 3/4" ply as the sides and base. and if needed, was thinking i could have a friend weld me a frame for extra stability.
