Setup tank for danios/corys, my 1st tank

maxxsgirl Jan 04, 2007 09:50 PM

After doing a bit of research, I've decided that a tank of danios and cory catfish is where I'd like to start with my 55gal tank. I know the basic conditions that the fish need, pH and all that great stuff, and what sort of equipment I need to get, ie filter, air pump, test kit, vacuum, so on. I'd love it if anyone has any specifics that could help me out; what filter in particular I could use to best handle my tank, what type/size/brand substrate is best on the bottom of the tank; anything and everything I'd be so grateful to hear. I have absolutely no experience with fish so I will use all the help I can get! Any help at all I'd be glad to have!

You will need a heater, thermometer or two, lights and top, filter (go with one rated higher then the size of your tank), plants and of course, substrate. You should have a test kit that at least includes amonia, nitrate, nitrite and ph. In general you want either sand or small, smooth gravel for the cory's. Note, there are over 100 species of corys so once you decide which you are going to get, research the particular needs of that one.
