I currently own two bettas; a male and a female, in seperate one gallon tanks, respectively. They each live with an albino cory cat, have under gravel filters, and a live plant (the name of the plant escapes me, but I bought the bulbs at Wal-Mart).
My boyfriend and I live in a small one bedroom apartment, and their tanks are on the same shelf in our bedroom. We have a large sliding glass door, and though the tanks don't directly face the door, the sun is still able to hit them when the blinds are open. Even if the blinds are closed, during the day, the bedroom still manages to get quite warm, as our door is sealed improperly.
Anyway, both tanks have algae, but the tank with my male betta (his tank is closest to the sliding glass door) seems to have a lot more algae than my female's. I realize it's probably the sunlight and the heat of the bedroom doing this, as there is no heater in either tank, but is there a way to get rid of the algae without killing the plants? Or should I just try using an algae scrubber more often?
I am unsure what kind of algae it is, but there seems to be a lot of it on the sides of the tank, and twice as much under the gravel. The water is beginning to look foggy too. Ideas?
