Can someone solve this mystery?

Betta5 Jul 27, 2007 08:51 AM

Hi, i have a mystery to solve in my 5 gal. tank. There is a betta that i have had for about 4 months, a catfish that i have had for about a month, and a live plant that i had for a month. But just this morning i noticed there was a baby snail cleaning the tank.....???? Could this have been brought in by the live plant? Or am i missing something here?....please advise! Also can i keep the snail in there, my betta or catfish hasnt done anything to it. Also does anyone know alot about live plants? mine isnt doing to well.....

Yeah, the snail came in through your live plant. It won't hurt your betta or your catfish, but it may soon multiply like crazy. I had this happen, only I purposely introduced the snail... silly me.

I don't know much about live plants though.

Thanks!, but if the snail has no one to mate with how can it multiply? (unless there were 2 snails in the plants, which i think there was only one).....

The snails you have are most likely asexual, but I highly doubt that only one made it in. Chances are you didn't notice a booger-ish glob on the leaf, thats the bunch of eggs. Don't worry though, these snail can't do any damage to anything unless they're starving, but there should be plenty of fish poo and old food and other bits for the to eat before they even consider munching on a plant. If you even get another plant and don't want them, make sure to was the plant really well.
