Hi, I hope someone out there can answer my platy query! I'm new to tropical fish and have a tank with a school of 7 red rasboras, 2 dalmation mollies and 7 mixed Platies (red, sunset, wagtail, tuxedo varigated, and rainbow) it wasn't until we got the platies home that we realised we had 5 males to 2 females, which I understand could be a problem! However they all seem to be getting along fine except for the red platy, who will not leave the rainbow platy alone. The strange thing is that both of these fish are male so it cant be a mating thing? The red platy is practically glued to the rainbow platys side, following it everywhere and rubbing against it. The rainbow platy isn't best pleased about it and continously tries to get away and has recently (and understandably!) started getting quite aggresive towards the red play although this hasn't put him off at all! Does anyone know what this behaviour is and whether there is anything I can do about it? Would it be an idea to get another red platy or would this make no difference? The red platy is not interested in any of the other fish in the tank, just the male rainbow platy.
