Inactive goldfish, sitting at bottom

Hello,

I have a goldfish who is 12 years old now and has suddenly turned ill. He is completely inactive and appears to struggle to swim off the bottom of the aquarium.His breathing is also very slow. I believe the water temp etc is correct, and wondered what could be causing this? Maybe internal parasites?

Any help would be greatly appreiated
