gravel vac?

polosue25 Oct 07, 2007 03:59 PM

I have a 10 gallon that until recently had 2 zebra fish and a big pleco in it... then my roommate added 6 goldfish (and I can't bring myself to flush them and tell her they died). They produce a lot more waste, and though the water looks clear, the fish look healthy and the tank bottom doesn't seem to be accumulating a lot of crap, I thought a gravel vacuum would be a good idea, so I got one of the passive siphon ones. I just tried it out and it pretty much just sucked out a lot of water and only a little of the junk--too fast for me to move it around and do any real cleaning, though maybe it stirred up some junk that the filter can now remove. Any suggestions?
thanks

I just use a turkey baster everyday after feeding. I also don't keep gravel in my tanks because I find it easier to keep clean without them.

so you just have a bare bottom? do you have any plants or anything for decoration? how do you anchor them?

Yes, I have a bare bottom tank. It's cool (to me) because you can see the bottoms of your fish. hehe. Yeah, I have decoration, but no live plants. The plants I do have I anchor with those little clear colored marbles. I have coral decor mostly though.
