My new Betta has ick, Help!

tomorrow264 Oct 08, 2007 09:34 PM

I got two bettas a week ago Sunday for a divided tank I have at work. When I went to work this morning I noticed one of them has ick. I added Quick Cure to the tank (it's Formalin and Malachite Green). Is there anything else I can do? Or something that would work better? Thanks.

Unfortunately, there is really not a lot you can do. Even though you treated the tank it is still possible to lose you fish. Ich is a cycling parasite so there are babies in the water and could reinfect your tank. I really hope your fish make it, and everything works out.
Keep us posted.

The betta that I found the spots on seems to be feeling better and there aren't as many spots on it as there were. The other one seems to still be doing fine. I'll keep treating the tank for a while. Hopefully I caught it soon enough. I've dealt with ick in Mollies before and it wasn't pretty, I lost all 5 fish to it.

Yeah, it really is just terrible. I read an interesting article about the life cycle of it, and it's just awful what the ich does to the fish. Hopefully you caught it soon, there is hope. I used to have a fish that fully recovered from it, but unfortunately I had to give it away because I was moving 12 hours away. Also, if your fish do survive, they are more likely to not get it again.
