Pregnant guppy gravid spot red

Tiffy10 Nov 26, 2007 10:05 AM

Hi,
I'm new this this forum, and I was reading another message posted early Feb about a simaliar question to this one.

I have 6 females to 4 male guppies & all but 1 of my females looks pregnant (black gravid spot)

Anyways, my one female has been just getting bigger & bigger (including her black gravid spot) & recently this weekend, I noticed her spot has changed colour, from black to red.
She looks like she's ready to pop & has been eatting & swimming perfectly fine.
Counting down from the day I purchased her, she would be due to give birth Dec 8th.(28 days) I couldn't tell, when I purchased her if she was pregnant before I got her, & the males & females are seperated at the pet store. I think she's about to give birth soon. Does anyone know what this red spot could be? Has anyone else seen this before?

Hi there. Welcome to the boards.

This is perfectly normal. My females always encountered this color change. Congrats on the babies!
If she has not had babies before she may not stick to the 28 days (could be before or after) and she probably won't have too many her first time, if she has had babies before (at the pet store or otherwise) she will have quite a few little ones for you to look after.

Good luck.

Thank you so much YAY

I found 6 little babies from her, she's still got a bit of a red spot & she doesn't look like she's shunk that much, so I think she's got some more maybe still coming, is that possible?
She had them before her 28 day period time. They are so cute & little. Any recommendations to what to feed them & how long before they will start eatting?

Thanks

YAY! Congrats!
Yeah, she's still got more if she's not back to normal yet. She could have gotten stressed out somehow and had a few of her babies early.
They are definitely cute and very very tiny.
They should start eating when they are hungry. Fry food is recommended (should be able to find it at the pet store), but you can use crushed adult food for the time being. Do you have the babies in a separate tank (or the breeding box/net)? If not, you will need to if you want to keep the babies.
