Chiclids sick?

anakin008 Dec 10, 2007 10:53 PM

We have four of these, two big and two small. With in the last few days I have noticed one of the smaller fish is less active. Today I took a good look at him/her and noticed a few things. The tail and top fin are in bad shape. They look chewed up, but I don't think any of the other fish have done this. The fish is yellow and I have noticed that his sides are looking a little brown.

Any advice? Also how do I find a store with an experienced person. When I lived with my parents in high school I had a great aquarium and a really great guy who owed a store near by. Now we live across the country and I don't know how to find another great person to help.

Thanks

The fin issue is more than likely because of the bully of the tank. Cichlids are very aggressive, and you are only supposed to keep similar sized fish together. Also, if they are from different regions that could also be the issue. As for the brown spots, I'm clueless. Shouldn't be anything to worry about. What are your water parameters? (i.e.: ammonia, pH, etc.)

As for your experienced fish people, good luck with that. There are few and far between. You can always ask us here at Aquarium Hobbyist and we are glad to help with any questions.
