Gourami species community tank

AdamDispenza Jan 23, 2008 12:51 PM

Can different species of Gourami be housed together without a problem? I’m hoping to house a couple “peaceful” species together at some point soon. My chosen fish are a pair of Dwarf Gourami, a pair of Honey Gourami and a single Pearl Gourami. I’d have the tank set up with plenty of plastic plants and hiding places, good filtration and all that. I’ve heard conflicting remarks about housing Gourami’s together. I’ve heard (and observed) that Blue Gouramis have a mean streak among other Gouramis and I’ve heard Kissing Gouramis can be nippy and of course, Paradise Fish aren’t a good community addition. I tried to pick the most peaceful (yet the most attractive) Gourami species I could. So... is it possible to keep Dwarfs, Honeys and Pearls in a “gourami community tank” with success?

I think they will be ok together as long as their all around the same size however just keep an eye on them to make sure you dont just get one thats very mean like some people I know lol. Whenever I add a new fish to my tank I watch to make sure it dosnt get picked on by the others which African Cichlids are known for that.
