How to keep a tank cooler?

merlin7676 Feb 04, 2008 09:00 AM

Well I have a 5 gallon and a 20 gallon. Heater in the 20 but it never clicks on as my water temp is around 76-78 normally. They sit on a kitchen counter away from a window and they are not in a warm spot, not is the house temperature warm...around 68 degrees...Even with the lights off it only drops down to about 75 or so....
Not a problem now but when summer comes (I live in the NW so no A/C as temps in summer are 80-90 max) what can I do to keep the water from getting too warm?

What kind of fish do you have? Tropical fish will be happy in those temps. Goldfish will not be happy. There's nothing but ice cubes that I know of to keep your tank cooler. So if this is the coolest your tanks get, I would recommend not to keep goldfish.

No, no goldfish...Just guppies, tetras, white clouds, and octocilis...guess if it gets warm this summer, I'll have to go the icecube route..thanks
