Looking for Dolphin Fish Information

rowantree Feb 12, 2008 08:53 AM

I saw in our local Pet Supplies Plus that they are now carrying what's called a Dolphin fish. It looks similar to a miniature dolphin. My daughter loves dolphins and I would love to surprise her with one or two of these fish but I know nothing about them. I tried Google with no success. I want to make sure that I will be able to take care of them if I buy them. Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

Hmmm. The only dolphin fish I know of is the mahi mahi that is an open ocean dwelling species. I highly doubt this species would be able to be kept in an aquarium, so I'm guessing that's not the one you're referring to. Is there any way you could get a picture of this fish? Maybe that would jog my memory. I can't think of another dolphin fish. If all else fails, just ask the pet store how they take care of the ones they have. However, I should warn you that I have never come across a pet store employee (in my experience - no offense) that know anything about fishes. They claim to know, but I've had a few cases on the boards here that people have listened to the pet store people and their fish died. This is not to say you won't run into a few that might know what they are talking about.

It'll probably be a while before I'm in that town again but I'll try to take a picture of it with my camera phone. I didn't ask the employees because #1 they were all busy and #2 I have run into the same situation you've described where the employees didn't know. It looks like a dolphin but size wise, it's about the size of the plecto that pet supplies plus sell.

Hmmmm. This one is a stumper. I'll see what I can find for you later on tonight. Gotta go to school for now.

I did some research for you, and this is what I found, but like I said earlier... I doubt that this is the fish you are talking about. If not, I am afraid I won't be able to help you figure it out. I can promote your post when you reply that this isn't the fish so that others might be able to help.
