Looking for Shark friends here in Michigan/I have a 600 gallon I am setting up

REPTILEBLVD Aug 11, 2005 02:30 PM

Hello all -
I live about 1 1/2 hours north of Detroit Michgan. I had a 150 gallon tank that I tore down and sold about 8 years ago out of frustration. At that time I was what I would call an uneducated shark lover. It is amazing how fast they would out grow that tank. I now have a wonderful acrylic 600 gallon tank that has been sitting empty for a few months as my wife and I have contiplated moving south. We have pretty much decided to purchase some property and build very slowly so I am going to start playing with my tank. If I remember right it is 10 ft by 4 ft by 3 ft tall. It fits perfectly in on spot in our basement, I wanted more but that is what I was able to negotiate with my wife.

I am hoping to make some friends within a hour or so of where I live in which to meet with trade ideas, and friendship. So much has changed in the last 8 years, I have spent a couple hundred dollars in books and my mind is going to mush. It was sure easy running that old 150 gallon tank, with a large canister pump, and undergravel filter run by power heads. I am ready to spend the money to do it right, however I have yet to actually decide which is the right way.

I have previously kept, Leopards, Bamboos, Woobies, Blue Dot Sting Ray, and a nasty Nurse Shark I felt sorry for and he made a meal out of half my tank!!! The uneducated mind is a horrible thing!!

My name is Marc, I am a family man, I look forward to meet all of you! Take care!!

Mark,
Have you checked with any of the local fish clubs? If you click on the "Societies" link above it will take you to a list. I noticed that there's at least one in Detroit and Kalamazoo.
