Should I buy this tank?

dharmalism Dec 13, 2005 10:17 AM

Hi all I am brand new to this forum. I was looking into buying a 75gallon fish tank for a reef tank eventually. I found a 2 year old used tank with stand and pumps and sump for $275.00 it sounds like a real bargain. I was wondering what you guys think of this. Does the drilled hole for the sump sound ok?) I am going to look at it tonight. here is the description:

2 Aquaclear 500s 1 pump (Quiet one 4000) 1 heater (Visi-therm 200W) 1 15G tank, I was using as a sump 1 75G tank (drilled in back left corner ~ 2” down from top, for overflow) tank is about 2.5 yrs old 1 stand and canopy I built myself. Also has 4 32W fluorescent bulbs All plumbing and hoses required for setting up sump

Any advice and observations would be great.

Thanks
Dharma

Sounds like a good deal to me. Did you get it?

Everything sounds alright. I would make sure that if the power goes out that the sump can hold the entire capacity of the tank that is drained from that overflow in the top corner. Check the stand also. Home made stands can be risky so make sure it looks stable and level. One more tip, make sure it holds water. Sometimes if they were sitting empty the seals can dry up and leak. Good Luck!
