i have a 55 gallon aquarium and it was previously used for fresh water so i already have a good filter but i was wondering hom much money it would probably cost to get all the other essientuals needed to start a reef aquarium in this size tank?

Before you start buying do some comparison shopping. Check your local stores and write down the prices of what you want and then go online and check www.thatpetplace.com, www.drsfostersmith.com and www.bigalsonline.com. bigAls has a price guarantee and will match any online price and give an additional discount if another site is higher. Before you price match online, go in a talk to your local pet store. Remember, if you buy from them you not only buy the product, you buy thier expertise. If you buy something online and don't know how to use it.... don't expect your local store to care that you don't know. As for a price, i would say for a reef tank if all you have is the tank, you would be looking at around $250-$300 for a fish tank, and double that for a reef tank. Hope this helps.
