Hermit Crab...Is He Sick? HELP!

Dazzle Feb 16, 2006 05:51 PM

Okay so my hermit crab for the past 4 or so days has been out of his shell. I'm very confused of why this is. I mean I have many different shells for him to choose from; however, he has decided to live underneath the food & water bowl...Which the base of it is a clam shell. I dont know if he thinks this is his "new" shell or what he is doing exactly, but it scares me.

Thanks,

Kayla

This is normal but is a very stressful time for your crab. He's molted. Make sure he has an assortment of new shells to move into. In the meantime, don't disturb him unless you detect a strong fishy smell (that is very bad).

For future reference, the hermit crab forum is in InsectHobbysit (forums.insecthobbyist.com/forum.php?catid=25)

Good luck!
