Agitated Female Clown

CoryJ Apr 11, 2006 12:22 AM

Howdy,

I've got a mated pair of maroon clowns (have never spawned) in a reef tank, where they've been living happily for over three years. The female has always been agressive to me -- nipping me when I clean the glass right in front of her anemone -- but all of a sudden she has become SUPER agressive to me, slamming herself audibly against the front of the tank whenever I get within about six feet. I'm afraid to go near for fear she'll hurt herself. Strangely (to me), everything else in the tank is just fine / business as usual; she's not hassling anyone in there -- just me! Plus, she still has a healthy apatite, and she shows no signs of injury or infection. And she's fine in the morning; this seems to be happening at night. What in the world is up with my fish?

Thanks!

Cory

Have you checked for eggs? It sounds as if her protective instincts may be kicking in.
