*SCREAMS* WHAT NOW?!!

AHHHHHHH!!!!!! I seriously am going to lose it. Just when it seams everything has settled down with my saltwater fishies. Everyone is out happy and eating.... I cleaned my canister filter out the other day. Next morning I wake up and the tank is CLOUDY!!!! CLOUDY! I tested the water....NITRITE is high?! Is my tank recycling?! That is what it SEEMS like?! My fish are miserable. My eel hasnt eaten now for 4 days since this stuff starte happening. He comes out and cruises the top of the tank like he did when I first got him. Just not happy. And he is the best eating fish in my tank! PH is fine, Nitrate, amonia, all fine...but Nitrite...well it was really high. It didnt match any of the color codes on my chart. I ran the test 3 times and then to make sure the formula was good I just did a test with some fresh water and sure enough the stuff worked fine. So I dont even know what my nitrite level is. I am doing a partial water change tonight because I fear my guys lives are in danger with this high nitrite rise. I dont know why this happened.....ANY help/suggestions!!!

Make sure the water you are using is balanced well before you put it in the tank, this causes a lot of problems/fluctuations with levels later on. I use distilled water, and then add some products to make sure it is completely clean, before mixing my salt. Also, don't worry about your eel's hunger strike, these guys can go weeks without eating. Best of luck.
