Temperature issues?

goodmoon Apr 28, 2006 11:17 PM

I started a 12g saltwater about 2 seeks ago, all the levels are fine. I'm aware that the smaller tanks are more difficult. but I am having problems maintaining temperature. I live in AZ and it gets really hot here. its supposed to hit 100F next monday. my tank has been running between 82 to 89F. The guys at the fish store (whom I believe to be rather knowledgeable) say that my tank cannot sustain life at this temperature. However my search for chillers has been bad. They are very expensive and I am now looking to some sort of alternative. I'm not super handy, and I can't build some kind of crazy referigerated pump thing. Is there some way of cooling my tank down for less than 550 dollars? My bf suggested getting a separate AC unit just for this room. is this a good idea? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A window air conditioner might just be your best bet. That way the room will maintain a steady temperature which will help the tank maintain one also.

If you can keep the Temp under 84 you'll probably be alright.
