I noticed an old post regarding the existance of Freshwate Seahorses and the responses were no, there's no such creature.
I always remembered my father bringing home some from a place in Saddleriver, NJ called Trickers... That was back in the early 70s or so. I have been on a search for them ever since. We Loved watching them eating brineshrimp in our 55 gallon tank with Angels and assorted other fish.
Everyone told me I was mistaken.... but I distinctly remember those seahorses, as does my Dad.
Well, This Month in Tropical Fish Hobbyist, Stan Sung wrote, in part two of is trip to Mayanmar (formerly Burma) of a wholesaler and Breeder named Soe Nyunt Tun who owns Aquaexotica in Myanmar. Soe not only states there is a Skyblue variety of Arowana but Also Freshwater Seahorses, which he himself "claims to have personally collected. It is reported that these 2-inch-tall, brownish seahorses are captured in 100-percent pure freshwater! Once again, these diminutive fish come from difficult-to-access habitats."
Hopefully the government there will change their policies and we will be able to get the opportunity to see these creatures ... again.
And, has anyone ever heard of Hippocampus aimei? I do find reference to this as a freshwater species.
