I officially have bristle worms. I suspected it at first, but I turned on the light and there they were, right up against the glass. Right now the tank is devoid of any fish or invertebrates. Just a desert of live sand and some live rocks (I've been cycling it). What's the best way to get rid of these disgusting things? I would really like to have a starfish once I have the whole thing fully prepped and just the way I want it, but I've read that bristle worms will eat starfis and inverts. Will they also eat other kinds of bristle worms, like the small colony of feather duster worms on a few of the rocks?
Also, there os one rock toward the back of the tank (its a 12g nano reef thing) it has this sand tube like thing growing off of it. It reminds me of a termite tunnel but it's made of sand, and is attached to the rock. Is this somethig the bristle worms do too?
And just one more question because I have heard 2 opinions on this. My aquarium is hoovering at 84 deg (I live in phx AZ) is is necessary to buy a $800 chiller or can I just be sure to buy fish and inverts from the indo-pacific (which is about the same temperature). The guys at my LFS say not that my tank is unable to sustain life. Like I already said there is definitely life in there (little snails, worms and feather dusters). My internet reasearch says that the indo-pacific fish thing is totally cool. If I ourchase fish that have been living at the fish store for whatever period of time in much coolerwater, will it hurt them anyway even if the breed is accustomed to much cooler temeratures? Sorry for all the questions, just new to the saltwater thing, and there are so many opinions out there. I just want to know what people have personal experience with.
