Fu manchu set up

monkeyman53 May 29, 2006 10:50 PM

I was thinking about getting a pair of fu manchu lionfish and I was wondering what size tank I'll need and accessories to go with it and what can I put in with them as in fish and finally, wil I be ok with a 75 gallon aquarium.

A 75 gallon set up would be a good size for these guys. Any standard saltwater tank will do, particularly with a larger footprint as they are primarily bottom dwellers. Make sure to have decent filtration, as all lionfish are heavy waste producers. Also, make sure to have several hiding places, so they can escape from the light. Lionfish will eat any fish they can fit in their mouth, and will devour any crustaceans, so both of these are no goes. (Mine ate a horseshoe crab once.) A good combination I have found are lionfish and snowflake eels. They generally get along very well and have a real "wow" factor. Again, make sure the eel is a decent size before adding him in with the lions. For even more info wetwebmedia.com is a good resource. Best of luck.
