I had heat issues, my tank was running upwards of 87 degrees (thank god no fish in it just live rock and sand) a fellow customer at my LFS suggested propping the cover up for better air flow. It worked, but its an eyesore. So I bought a chiller, pwerhead for it and some tubing, but LFS saleman confused me onthe best way to set it up. The confusion being that my tank is a 12g nano. Since I started propping the top up it runs at a much cooler 76-78 degrees. The chiller I bought is advertised for the smaller nano tanks, the power head is a 600-something (the LFS associate said it was appropriate, I've been a customer since my first freshwater and they know my tanks and fish pretty well, and I trust their info) and 6 ft of appropriately sized hose. For those not familliar with the nano tanks, all the filtration is housed in 3 compartments at the back of the tank. I've never needed to hook-up a chiller before and I really feel stupid for having to ask how.
The stats of this tank (if it matters)
12g Nano with included fitration and lighting (I plan on changing the lighting once corals are added)
Approx 10 lbs of live rock
Approx 15 lbs of live sand
1 coral banded shrimp
1 Randalls goby
Do I have to empty the whole tank to add this chiller? From examining the tank I can't see much space for anything in the back of it. I'm just not sure how to go about installing this darn chiller. I guess its a good thing that I can maintain the temp until I can figure it out.
