Want to get Purple Urchin(s?)

californiamolly Dec 02, 2006 03:04 AM

What are the requirements to have a purple urchin thrive in a tank. Special lighting? Special filtration? Can I keep more than one? any weird things I should know about them? what have your expirences with them been like? Should I catch one myself? (I live real close to tide pools.) I know there are laws against taking wildlife, but I am tempted =[ Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

I don't know a lot about saltwater aquariums, nor do I have one just yet, but I can tell you I strongly suggest you leave wildlife where it belongs... in it's natural environment. There are reasons it is illegal to remove wildlife from the wild. Can you imagine what would happen if everyone just decided "hey I want this... so I will go take it, that way I save money." Scuba divers, snorkelers, and marine biologist (like myself) wouldn't have much to look at or study. JMHO.
