Small White Worms?

r3dh4tch Dec 27, 2006 03:03 PM

I have had my 85g marine aquarium set up for approximately 5 months and have these very small white worms on my live rock and on my glass. They are less that 1/4" in length and no bigger in diameter then an average sewing needle. I have mushrooms, anenomes, soft coral, and about 6 fish. Everything seems fine except my mushrooms... they don't look very healthy. I do routine water changes every 2 weeks and try to suck these tiny things up if I come across them, but they seem to multiply quickly. Does anyone have any ideas as to what they are and what can be done to get rid of these little critters?

My guess is nematodes (not parasitic), but I only have experience with fw aquariums. If they are indeed nematodes, they will soon die off if there is no food (so like left over food, stuff like that). In fw tanks, guppies sometimes eat them. I'm not sure if there is a sw equivilent. If I recall correctly from my animal biology class, nematodes can live in sw as well.

I would say keep the bottom of your tank clean to see if that helps. Good luck.
