Sick kuhli loach: hot water?

Jillybean Oct 09, 2007 06:51 AM

I recently introduced a red-tailed shark to my community tank, and immediately the shark had little white ich-looking spots all over. The temperature went up to 86°, and the shark is doing great. Everyone became much more active, including the normally reclusive kuhli loach, suddenly swimming all around the top. This morning I noticed the loach swimming in spirals and running into obstacles. Is this due to the too-hot water? If I decrease the temperature too soon will I be risking re-infection for the shark?

If you think you shark has ich, then you need to treat them all as the parasite is now in the water. You'll have to look at what your local pet store offers. The loach does sound like it has ich.

Also, a red-tailed shark shouldn't have been put in the tank with the community because they are semi-aggressive and in my personal experience it is the most aggressive (right up there with tiger barbs). But I still wish you the best of luck with your fish.
