is my Dwarf Lionfish Sick?

defender150 Oct 28, 2007 07:07 AM

I just purchase a Dwarf Lionfish and he has been resting on my live rock constantly, he moves occasionally but never really swims around. He has also become sort of pale, and his top spines hang to the sides rather then straight up. He hasn't eaten yet but I have had him less then 48 hours so donut know if his appetite is an issue yet. He's aloe in the tank with the exception of a Snowflake eel which was introduced at the same time and has been doing great.

I would say your lionfish is sick, however, I am basing my opinion on FW issues. If you could post your water parameters for other posters, that would be helpful in order to rule things out. The fact that he is not eating is a big red flag, and it may be too late to save him (again I have no experience with SW fish). I'll be promoting your post to help get you some answers and opinions on what to do. Also, you may want to mention how long you've had your tank set up. All these will hopefully help find what's wrong. Best of luck to you and your lionfish (and eel of course).

I had an extra minute or so to look at this paper (to take a break from studying genetics...fun fun), which should help you a little. It's got a section on diseases and health problems.

It says that lionfish are hardy, and also nocturnal. Have you watched you little one at night? Well check out this articcle and let me know if it helps at all.
