Crab growing new leg?

smcclure81 Jul 07, 2005 01:04 PM

I rescued 2 hermit crabs from a souvenir shop about a month ago. When I got them home I noticed one was missing a leg--probably due to the awful conditions in the shop. With a little TLC, both the crabs are doing fine now, healthy and active. Yesterday, I noticed that the one missing the leg now has a little nubby spot where the leg used to be. It looks like a little bump covered with gel. I have heard that crabs grow new legs when they molt, and wondered if this is what is happening. If so, how long before the molt?

I'm not an expert but it depends onthe last time it molted and how comfortable it is in it's living conditions.
I've noticed my crabs seemed to have molted once in like 3 months.
I hope this helps.
