Is my hermit crab dead?

kmh41512 Jul 10, 2005 08:35 PM

My hermit crab has always been very active. I came home Sunday after being gone since Friday night and it was out of its shell and is not moving. It does not smell. I have read a lot of stuff on the internet and it says sometimes people think their crab is dead, but it is really getting ready to molt. I have never had a hermit crab until about 1 month ago and don't know if my crab is dead or not. Please help.

In my exprience with Hermies they do not come totally out of their shell and sit around naked to molt.
They generally hide in their shell for a couple of days and do not move. After a few days or even a week you'll notice the old skin sitting there.
Hope you this helps and you Hermie is ok.
