inactive hermie!

Hi All!
Just bought my kids a couple of hermies tonight. Really, they were more for me, but I'll humour them! What a couple of cute buggers they are too! Quick question. I purchased them at a pet store. I brought them home and gave them a bath. Three of them immediately became very active (to my kids' delight!) but one did not. I was watching them in their crabbitat and noticed something moving it it's shell. It was a maggot!!! GROSS! I immediately took it out and gave it another bath. It has not fallen out of it's shell or anything, but I have not seen it move. Is he dead??? Thanks for the help...

gross! I hope I am not too late, I just found this forum today....

I would just bring him back to the store you got him at.. if he is still not moving and smells like a strong fishy odor he may be dead.. you need to try to isolate him from the others.

It is hardto tell the difference between a difficult molt and a deceased Hermie.. I just went through one and it was a hard time. Mine is now OK and thriving with the others... Hermit crabs are very complex and need very specific conditions in order to thrive in captivity.
