Naked crab! (with reddish lump)

vampchick00 Apr 17, 2007 03:01 PM

Hi there.
I've gone through and read many of the posts on here about how to get a crab back into a shell. I've checked heat/humidity, which are fine. and I've used the drinking glass technique to get it into a shell. It worked yesterday (when I first noticed the crab was out), and it went back into it's old shell, not a new slightly larger one. But today, its back out of its shell.
I'm mew to hermit crabs, and so don't know much about the way they act, and I had never seen a naked crab before, so I don't know if there is any damage to its soft parts. It looks almost like there is a reddish lump on the one side, which I'm assuming shouldn't be there.

Any and all help is appreciated!

On closer inspection, I just noticed that a little section of exoskeleton from it's front leg is missing too. Is it molting or is it something else?

Never mind...
He was just molting, so all is well now!

Sorry I didn't see your message sooner... we've been moving.

Sometimes a crab will come out of it's shell when it's time to molt.
