Teflon/T-Fal

U24ME Aug 01, 2003 11:34 PM

When we had the African Grey, I was cooking with "Visions". Now that I'm getting the U2 I am concerned about my T-Fal. I had heard a long time ago that it was toxic to the parrots.

I need to know if this is true. If it is, then I need to pull out the "Visions" before he gets here.

Someone also told me there's something called C-Fal? That it is safe to use around parrots.

Help!!

The danger with any coated cookware is when it's overheated it can give off toxic fumes. Can be fatal to birds. I wouldn't chance it. Personally, I don't like any type of coated cookware. It chips off too easily and I certainly don't want to ingest any of it. I don't own any, threw out the few pieces I had. I prefer stainless or cast iron. Those are the safest to use imho. Of course, the Visions should be fine too. No coating to worry about. Here's a link with some info on Teflon. I'd apply this to any nonstick coating. If it's bad on birds, can't be healthy for us, imo.
