Flavia Guimaraes Oct 16, 2003 11:42 PM

A friend of mine told me that rice is poisonous for birds, mainly for pigeons. Is that true?

I feed my birds cooked rice almost every day. They mainly eat pelleted food but they each get a small cup of a mixture of veggies, cooked brown rice, cooked pasta, and cooked 15 bean soup mix.

I used to hear stories that if birds ate uncooked rice that it would absorb moisture in their body and expand and kill them. I have no idea if anybody ever tested that as being true or not.

So anyway, you can feed your pet birds cooked rice with no problems.
