Adopting a Blue Headed Pionus - any advice would be great

IvanTheTerrible Jan 12, 2005 03:09 PM

I'm visiting a 5 year old Pionus on Monday, and as long as he doesn't try to eat my finger, I will be bringing him home. The owner, a coworker, recently got a cat and the bird has been very unhappy - so she decided to get rid of it. Good thing is that I'll be bringing his cage with me, so that's going to help, I'm sure. She has been talking me through his routine (especially pre-cat, when he used to leave the cage) and has been talking to me about his diet and habits.

Is there anything I can do to make the transition easier for the little guy? Please advise...never had a bird like this before.

Thanks in advance,
-I

With his original cage and knowledge of his routine, you`re off to a good start. You could try visiting a few times and getting to know him in his home before taking him home, that may help.

Sometimes birds will bite a stranger for any of various reasons (often it`s to `protect their mate` or something along those lines). So even if you get bit I would still consider going through with the adoption.
