Housing Breeders/ Can you house more than 1 set of Breeders together

mommybear Oct 12, 2003 12:25 PM

I haev 3 sets (soon to be 4) of breeders in 3 seperate 20 gallon tanks, can I more them all over to a 55 gallon or or would they fight if I did that. I looked threw the archives and could not find an answer and all of my herps are in my room and it would give is all a little more living space. IF not we will figure something else out.

Thanks

You can try just watch them closely. I have observed aggression in some species but not in Desert Horned Lizards. The main thing to worry about is the stress factor. If you see individuals continuely trying to get out of the enclosure it can be because they feel overcrowded. Weight is lost rapidly in stressed HL's so be careful.

I would suggest two pair for 55 gal., and although there ususally is no agression, there is stress, two many may cause stress, I can't imagine 4 pair not causing some issues, especially when you consider the population denisty in the wild. I would set up two basking spots as well so they are not hovering around one hot spot. Just my opinion........
