What do i do next for training...

I have had my budgie for 3/4 of a year and he is very comfortable around me and on my hand. But in order for me to get him out of the cage to handle him, i need some millet. I also use the millet to get him on my hand or where ever else (he is obsessed with millet). What should i do next in order to handle him without a treat?
