HELP PLEASE!!! My Budgies breeding gone wrong?!?!?!

Baby_Budgie Aug 01, 2005 08:54 PM

I've had about 7 budgies and one cockatiel and now my male budgie today bred with one of my females- I was really excited and hoped to get some baby budgies. I was setting up a seperate cage for the pair (I have 4 budgies at the moment) and when I was getting some perches, toys and dishes from the big cage to put into the smaller cage for the pair, I found an egg on the floor of the cage and I'm pretty sure it's the one female's... Well, I set up a kind of nesting box for them and placed the egg on a soft washcloth that I placed over several layers of paper towel. But they don't seem to know at all what to do with it. The male poked his head in a few times and nibbled a bit at the bottom edge of it, but that's it.
I need advice ASAP on how to get the mother to nest because I've always wanted to breed budgies and this is the first time any of them I've had have bred with eachother. I don't want to lose this chick or any of them! I am so lost... PleaseHelp!

I'm very sorry to tell you this but more than likely. The egg is not fertile. My sugestion to you would be keep your pair in a seperate cage with a nest box. wait about a month then look in your box and you should have some eggs. Budgies are pretty easy. and thats about all there is to it.
