There's all of this talk about bird flu in Asia and even part of Europe. From what I can gather, all the known transmissions have been poultry to poultry, wild bird to poultry, and poultry to human, no hookbills or exotics involved. I live in San Diego, California, far from the troubled areas right now, but a potential hot spot since we get so many migratory bird here. I have concerns about my cockatiel being at risk. My bird is stricktly a house bird, she's never seen open air or wild birds in her life, or at least since she was sold to me. And yet, I do take her to the local bird store to get her wings and nails clipped and to get bird seed and millet spray. Is the bird store a possible source of contagions? Should I start clipping at home and getting my bird supplies elsewhere? Is it possible to get bird flu from food that has come into contact with an infected animal? Should I avoid bording my cockatiel at the bird store in the future? I just wanted to hear some thoughts on this problem from other bird owners. Thanks -Oleg
