I previously owned two parakeets Templeton and Lucy, and they were kept in separate cages. I introcuced them to one another slowly, and now have them in one cage with a new bird, Kiwi. As soon as everyone moved into the new cage together they began to groom themselves a lot, and Lucy even scratches her head on the bars of the cage. Templeton and Lucy are molting, so it's possible that that is why they itch. However, I think that it's possible that Kiwi brought in mites or some other kind of problem. I've heard that mites are rather large, black, and visible, and haven't seen anything of the sort. Does anyone know what mites or some other sort of contagious skin problem would look like?
