My plum head parakeet loves coke.

I dont give it to him, but he loves the stuff. He doesnt go after any diet coke or pepsi that my girlfriend drinks only coke classic.

If he does manage to get any its a just a sip from the remains around the edges of the can. He will even try sipping it when i put it in a glass with ice.

I know caffeine is bad for birds and most animals, but was wondering if anyone has had any experience like this with their birds.

He searches around the apartment for cans too.

We have to make sure all pop bottles have the lids firmly in place and no open glasses of pop around the house. Scarlett (our eclectus) will even try to chew into the side of a pepsi bottle to get to it. Also it is not only the caffeine in the coke (or pepsi) that is hazardous but also the fact that part of your saliva would get on or in the bottle or glass. Human saliva of course has some bacterias in it which can be harmful to birds.

I think the main thing with our Scarlett which may or may not be with your bird is she wants anything my husband has. If he is eating or drinking anything she goes after it and will even keep trying to go after it when he has finished but she usually ignores whatever I have, LOL!

My mustached parakeet will go after pretty much anything I have... especially coffee. He likes to try to sit on the edge of the mug. I've gotten used to quickly drinking my coffee barely warm when the bird's out...
