How do I transfer birds from cage ?

siennadesert May 21, 2006 03:14 PM

I just acquired 2 lovely parakeets. I prefer to use my own vintage Hendryx style of cage, but I am having trouble transfering the birds. I can't afford to go buy a net. I have the door to the cage I want to use, open and pressed against the cage they are currently in, with that gate/door open, in hopes they will fly in. It has been 3 hours, nothing yet. Any help?

Marie

If you haven't already transferred them, you can try using a big cup or bowl and kind of trapping them in it, then put your hand directly over the opening. Or you can use a handkerchief. But you really should try to budget for a net. They really don't cost very much.

Thanks Sue,

It finally happened, 6 hours later. Now I know what the coyote must go thru trying to trap the road runner. It was exhausting! I just opened both cage doors and placed them together so there was no escape route from the sides, and transfered the food dish to the cage I wanted them in. 6 hours later they both went in.

I will get a net. I think it is a good idea.
