Killer Budgie! Advice please...

budgie_addict Aug 06, 2006 10:01 PM

Hi All!
I have a large aviary with just 6 budgies - 2 females and 4 males, with 3 nesting boxes, my 18 month old female laid her first 3 eggs about a week ago and was being a very attentive Mum. The second female went into the nesting box and broke all three eggs! I have removed her (the second female) from the aviary and her partner, placing them in a smaller cage. Now to my question. Is it likely that the second female will break her own eggs? Or do you think it was a jealousy thing?
Thanks for any advice you can share about such budgie behaviour.

Has the second budgie ever produced eggs before? Some first time bird mums will break their eggs or not sit on them. I would imagine it was more of a jealousy issue but she may not take good care of her own babies either, you will need to watch her nesting behavior closely.

Thanks for that, I will keep an eye on her. I honestly don't know if the second budgie has laid before as I got her as an adult from my local pet shop. She was in one of those tiny cages and I had a large aviary at home and hoped she would fit in!
