It's too cold for my parakeets!

lahmeh May 29, 2007 07:18 PM

Hi all. I sure hope someone can give advice. I have 2 parakeets but live in a finished basement and it's usually 65 degrees in here. What if any kind of heat source can I buy for my babies? I don't want to make them too hot and don't want to use light that will bother them at night. Help! Thanks in advance for any advice! Lattishia

65 is really not that bad for a bird to be in as long as it is used to that temperature. The only way this "might" be a problem is if your bird was very used to 80F and suddenly dropped even then it is questionable as to whether it would cause a problem. If it still worries you buy a small electric space heater that you can adjust the temperature or level of heat and turn it on a low setting.
