I've been caring for a pigeon for a week now. He was found on my front porch slightly stunned (though well able to run), and with a damaged wing. It clearly had no broken bones and he was not scratched or hurt in any other visible way. I have been caring for him (I don't have birds now, or much experience with them), and he is eating well and seems healthy and strong in every other way. He can open and flap his wing but is unable to lift even a few inches off the floor. Should I expect to see some improvement by now (seven days), or is this time frame normal? There are a Lot of pigeons locally so I'm sure he comes from some where near by and I was so hoping to release him back close to his home. However, if this damage is long term or permanent I need to start searching for a refuge for him. I love caring for him, am so happy to have him with me, but I know it isn't right for him. I just would like an idea if waiting a little longer is likely to see him flying, or if I have to accept that he will need a new home.

Any advice or opinions are very welcome. I've read extensively about bird rescues in the past but I always appreciate more information.

Thank you,
Grey Dove
