Plantings in indoor Aviary ?

Ravenspirit Apr 03, 2003 10:59 AM

I have a good sized indoor avairy, I built into my living room - Its 10 feet long, 4 feet deep, and 9 feet high - Ive included a picture of it -

Im looking for new, and hopefully sturdy plantings to add into it - I have snakeplant right now, and that does ok - gets a tad chewed up by my bishops, but is otherwise fine - I was hopeing to find some type of grass or somthing, safe for the birds, that would do ok indoors - I do have Uv lights hooked up in there for the birds, and I figure they could douple for a plant that needs at most medium light -

If anyone knows of some grassy type of plant, (maybe some kind of bamboo ??) I would greatly appreciate your imput -

What a great aviary!! That looks super!

At some point I did some searching on exactly such a topic! Here's a page I bookmarked with non-toxic plants for finch aviaries: http://community-2.webtv.net/SuperDale/FinchesMyBirdBed/page6.html

A lady in our bird club also has a nice indoor aviary. She put about a 12 inch strip of lattice around the top of the room and hung nests on there. She also has 2 sets of plastic plants. She sprays the plants with pam so the poop won't stick!!! She puts one set of plastic plants up while she cleans and disinfects the other set so she'll always have some up there!

Hope the list of plants helps! Looks like quite a few options!

Im going to look into some kind of bamboo if I can - I think theyd really appreciete the canes and cover it would provide.

Im going to look into types of groundcover too, and thats a great list, as Im sure ill find something I like !
