hello again, thank you for replying with the last post! i decided to take him back to Petsmart (were i purchased him) and they are taking him to a vet, than when he is better, they said i could re-purchase him. the only problem is...my female canary i already had at home, seems to be happier without the male. she hasnt sung since i got the male, then when i took him back, she started to sing again. im wondering if shes happier without him, or what. im conffused on if i should or shouldnt repurchase the male canary.....will they have to be reintroduced all over? also what are everyones thoughts on canaries and finches living in the same household, will they get along? not in the same cage, but next to each other in diff. cages, cause i was wondering, if i dont get the male canary i was thinking of getting finches cause i think my canary will like company, but just not in the same cage = thanks everyone for your help in advance!

Canaries aren't social birds like finches are. So a single canary is happy being alone. If you decide to re-purchase the male canary, be sure to quarantine him in another room for at least 30 days. That way, you can be sure he is healthy and won't pass on diseases to your other birds. All new birds brought into the household should be quarantined in this manner.

Canaries and finches can live together in separate cages without a problem. I have budgies, canary, finches, and cockatiels living together. They all like each other!

Are you sure the canary you have now is a female? Females don't "usually" sing. Not that it matters, lol, since she's a pet. It's just more common for the males to be the singers. And, you can't really tell by looking at them.
Good luck with the canary and the finches!
