Hi, I'm a new hobbyist, and the owner of 2 canaries (yellow male and female)named Steve and Edie. The male is an American Singer with a deep yellow color (intensive/yellow) and the female is pale yellow (nonintensive/buff). The pair get along well, except for occas-ional aggression over fresh fruit/greens. The male only chirps softly since I put them together - he used to sing beautifully when alone. The 2 birds have been together in a large double cage with the divider out. The female has laid multiple clutches of eggs during that time - all sterile. I'm guessing that she's not receptive to the male - he will sometimes chase her but isn't aggressive. The female will lay eggs with or without the male in her cage - I'm concerned she's going to get nutritionally stressed. Is this common? Both birds are relatively young (green bands) - ? bred 2001. Thanks for the help. Beth
