my mother zebra finch died

idreammylifeaway Dec 20, 2004 11:09 AM

i have 3 baby zebra finches about a little over a week old. this morning their mom was dead in the nest. The dad is still alive. I have 2 society finches also in the cage. I'm not sure if they are a female and male but they sleep together and have a nest together. I'm really sad and i want my babies to survive. What are my options? is handfeeding an option? if so how do i do that? thanks

Sorry for the loss of your finch. Since the dad is still alive, is he feeding and caring for them? With my first pair of zebras who had babies, the dad died before they fledged (although they were older than your babies), and the mom filled in just fine. She continued double duty as long as necessary.

If the dad is not feeding them, let the societies have a chance to "adopt" the zebbies. Let us know what happens.
