too many birds in one nest?

luvmiburds Feb 13, 2005 01:20 AM

I have 6 Finches 3 male 3 female, In a cage that is 2'high 2'deep and 4'long, and I have placed 6 finch nests up higher in the cage and during the day they are all taking the nesting materials up to the nest, but when its there bedtime (which they have chosen to be 7pm) all 6 lovebirds climb into one nest....Is this healthy, or is there a chance of suffocation from the one on the bottom of the "birddie pile" ?

Thanks

Well, this is pretty normal I believe. When our finches had their babies they had 4 babies. Even after the babies were fully feathered they would all sleep in the nest, 4 babies and 2 parents. They are cuddle bugs anyways so it probably reminds them of being young again .
